3. **Choose Edit > Fill**.
The Fill dialog box opens. You can select Solid Colors (p. 725) or Gradients (p. 724) from the Fill drop-down list. Click the Colorize button to set a color, and click the Swatches button to open the Swatches palette. Click the Colorize button again, and choose the color you want to use from the Available Colors list on the right.

Your photo is now ready for clipping.
You can use the Fill command to make your photo appear filled with whatever color you specify, although it will still be transparent in areas that you don’t fill.

Click inside the image area to set the selection.
In Elements, the tiny arrow in the toolbar shows the selection cursor. As soon as you start dragging, you see the selection boundary, as shown on the left in Figure 12-2.
In the Layers panel, the selection border appears green when you’re in the default mode (see Figure 12-2). Notice that it shows the boundary of the selection, including any areas that you may have inadvertently selected outside of the image (don’t worry; you can easily change your selection with the Refine Select tool).
Don’t worry about the fact that this is a selection masking tool; by using the Selection Options dialog box (choose Edit > Selection Options) shown on the right in Figure 12-2, you can deselect anything that’s inside your selection, reducing the size of the selection.

For macOS, you can’t use Windows-based programs on macOS (without changing the default system preferences to open files in a browser, since MacOS has its own file manager).
If you open a file with Photoshop Elements on macOS, the operating system will show you a screen asking you to agree.
You can:
Proceed with the operation (which might not work if the file is not compatible with your version of Photoshop Elements). This will save the file on your hard drive without your consent. Press the Cancel button to cancel the operation or Press the Open button to save it on your hard drive.

A slim majority of U.S. voters believe that Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election, despite the official conclusion by the U.S. intelligence community that the Russian government was not responsible, a new poll shows.
The Oct. 27-Nov. 1 survey found that 51 percent of people think Russian President Vladimir Putin interfered with the election, the largest portion of respondents since the questionnaire, conducted by the NBC News/Wall Street Journal, first began in late August.
However, most voters also agree with the U.S. intelligence community and past reports from Obama administration officials who say the Russian government did not influence the American presidential election. Just over half, or 54 percent, of Americans believe the Kremlin wanted Trump to win, an opinion that also far outpaces the 10 to 14 percent who believe the Kremlin wanted Clinton to win.
“Putin’s intentions in 2016 have been a complete mystery for over two years,” said GOP pollster Bill McInturff, who conducted the survey with Democratic pollster Fred Yang. “And despite all the good work the U.S. intelligence community has done, the American public is unable to get clarity on the question about Putin’s intentions.”
The NBC/WSJ poll revealed that more than half of Republican and Democratic respondents alike think the American intelligence community either does not have enough information (73 percent of Republicans and 58 percent of Democrats) or that it is too politicized (57 percent of Republicans and 63 percent of Democrats) to know whether Putin was influencing the election.
Despite the woeful gap on how Americans view Putin’s motives, there is a confidence among most U.S. voters that the U.S. electoral system is robust enough to withstand further Russian tampering in future elections, according to the NBC/WSJ survey.
When the NBC/WSJ poll first conducted, a total of 79 percent of Americans said they believe the security of future elections is a major national security threat. That number has since jumped to 85 percent, the survey showed.
Despite that momentum, however, views on voter integrity have eroded among the American public since the NBC/WSJ poll first began, as 60 percent of people surveyed in the current poll agree with the statement that they “are not confident that every vote will be counted accurately.”
