I was hoping to see a better comparison to Lightroom, however, it was more of a subjective review. Personally, I prefer Lightroom, particularly the app in the Windows environment. I haven’t used the iPad version a lot of time, but they would be similar in some ways.
It’s not a perfect review but it is pretty good. It’s so clean, and so easy to use. It takes about 10 minutes or so to familiarize yourself with the app. Once you do that it’s a pleasant experience, almost as if you are using the computer version and not the iPad. It’s definitely worth checking out, especially if you’re looking for a photo editing app.
It raises an interesting issue: if Apple wants the iPad to become a full computing experience, and Adobe wants to tap into this market first, it might make sense for Apple to somewhat remove Photoshop from the App Store, just like Microsoft does with Windows Phone. It would be easier for Adobe if they allowed this to happen, since it would avoid many of the complexities of getting digital editions of Photoshop onto iPads.
It’s true, laptops are great — for if and when that’s what they are good for. And some people don’t care about having a tablet just for design work. For the rest, however, the iPad Pro and the Touch Bar give them a PC’s level of control and usability, but in a smaller package.
I was expecting a more in-depth review of Photoshop on the iPad, but I’m still interested in the mechanics of the iPad version of Photoshop. I think it’s a great tool for a lot of people. It’s a great way to show the type of work we do at PCMag, but I was surprised to see it focus on the creative possibilities of the iPad.
