the elements of a drum kit are the following:
kicks – a kick is made by the musician with a mallet to hit the drum head. the two main places you will look for the drum elements are on the mic stand, and in the second rack.

congas – congas are typically used to accent the drums to either fill the space or to slightly change the timbre of the drum element. a common use for congas would be to add a little bit of percussion at the end of a song to finish the song.
toms – toms are typically used to create rhythmic tension, such as during an intro. toms are often very close to the microphone to get a tight placement.
sidetones – sidetones are used to create a slightly different pitch that is used to fill in the gaps in the song. it is important to make sure that the sidetone does not interrupt the drums.
sequencer – the metronome is not used for the drums, but rather for the rhythm of the song. typically the metronome can be found in the rack to the far left or right of the drums.
