Before I had a lot of time to kill, Defense Grid 2 was a fairly casual game. It was simple, you mostly got a ton of fun out of it and there was plenty to do. What I liked most was the opportunity to try new tactics. My favorite game mode was the Comms Rush, where only you can communicate with your base.
I’ve already played through Defense Grid 2, and in case you didn’t, here are the basic instructions I gave myself when starting the game. (Spoiler: you’ll need a lot of patience in order to finish the game.)
Defense Grid 2 is a very forgiving game, but you need to be a bit on your toes. The main goal of the game is to collect enough cores to power your Generator. The Generator opens a new, more heavily-guarded version of the world, and if you can survive that, you can really start to expand your empire. Here’s how the process works. There are 4 levels in each set of expansions.
Defense Grid 2 doesn’t follow any established rules for tower defense. It’s free for download in the Android Market. You can buy it in other formats from Amazon for $5.99 in the US, or £4.49 in the UK.
Another thing Defense Grid 2 does well is add space and dimension to your tower defense games. It’s never been this big and never this cool. The levels are more like levels than levels. The landscapes go on forever and offer a great view of the game.
Defense Grid 2 has an excellent addicting gameplay and along with its integrated multiplayer functionality it allows to build an endless narrative. You build up an army of different types of units to protect your base from the unstoppable wave that is coming.
defense grid 2’s easy to pick up and play, but has tons of depth. you can have aliens spawn as a wave, on a timed delay or in an endless wave. the aliens move in 2d planes instead of a 3d grid, and they can shoot back at you if you hit them. every tower has a different purpose, and you can upgrade your towers, like in any tower defense game.
defense grid 2’s a great game if you like tower defense games, but it can be frustrating at times. the upgrade options are great, but it’s hard to get used to the fact that the creatures are in 2d planes and they can move in different directions at different speeds. the ai is decent, but i found myself wishing for more layers of strategy. finally, the game’s difficulty settings are a bit vague, and i wish the options were explained more clearly. overall, it’s worth your time.
it took me a little while to get the hang of defense grid 2, but once i did, i fell in love with it. i’ve been playing it quite a bit since it came out. i like the way you have to build your base, then protect it and upgrade it. to protect your base, you’ll have to find some weak spots, and do your best to block the aliens from reaching them. defense grid 2 has a great tower upgrade system, and it’s pretty easy to be creative with it.
defense grid 2 is a surprisingly deep turn-based strategy game. i enjoyed watching the aliens move across the map and go for the offensive. the goal is to prevent the aliens from reaching your one precious blue core.
