If it is new firmware download, you’ll find your Galaxy download from X10 Flashtool screen. The main manufacturer’s web site or X10’s is ok. If not it is probably a good idea to download the latest Firmware first as it’s better quality. Don’t try the download from a random source. Make sure that the firmware you download is for your phone.
You can choose from different downloads which may be for different Galaxy’s. I suggest that if you have a HTC, use HTC Flashtool (for Windows only). But if you have an Xperia you can use the Xperia Firmware for Windows file listed above. But if your device doesnt appear in the list then you might have to try a different port number.
thanks petefoth, your the man. flashtool worked, I have worked on modifying the android kernel to solve the black screen issue, as far as I can see this is as close as you can get to the desired result. What I have done so far is to flash the stock 4.2.2 kernel from the rom-keeper via fastboot. This has worked exactly as required.
Now click on \”Scripting\”. This will bring up the options for \”Script\” (see video) and \”Save and run script\”. If you select \”Script\” at this point you will have the screen below. \”Save and run script\” is for creating a bundled ROM (like Flashtool) which you can then upload to a site such as XDA which will allow people to download your ROM. So for this tutorial we are going to use \”Save and run script\”. But you can use \”Script\” instead depending on what you want to do.
I managed to install XperiFirm with flashtool on 3.1.0 which is a very good start, thank you. Then got the kernel but cant get it on the phone because the kernel is wrong! The other solution is to do the following:- 1. Download XperiFirm and flashtool, plus kernel to a shared folder 2. Press Install button to flash. Kernel will flash without problems. 3. Download new kernel from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/xda-developers-…-cyanogenmod-10-f2a924040 then flash back to recovery. Kernel will be flashed. 4. Wait for it to boot to the ‘not a change’ screen. 5. Hootboot, and it will flash both kernels. If you haven’t modified the kernel you will get the ‘nothing to do’ message. If you have done anything to it it will get hotboot to the change screen 6. If you have done anything to it, select old kernel, and then press wait. Wait a few minutes. It should boot into the 4.2.2 kernel. 7. Modify kernel. It boots to black screen. Press Home, then select old kernel and press wait, then press Menu. 8. Kernel will boot without problems I am going to repeat steps 2 – 7 till I got one that boots with 4.2.2 kernel. It will be easier for me than for you. I haven’t found one that works with any kernel yet. The kind of progress and the inability to get pass step 5 is annoying to me. I think the 2.7.4 kernel from the rom keeper is more suited to my phone than the 4.2.2 or 4.2.3 kernels, though they have to be modified somewhat to work with the cm10 kernel I have just flashed. 9. In that video it goes through installation of a custom kernel, and the creation of a folder, and the copying of a firmware, and unplugging the device, and then booting, then rebooting, then selecting the newly installed kernel, it boots, and modifies the kernel, and reboots, and back to an AOS, then a new AOS. It is a very long and tedious process. So maybe I will wait for a good kernel. 11. I will post a video of step 6 and 7. Some of you have been watching, and you can just go home and watch it on youtube and see me get to step 6 with a fastboot installed 4.2.2 kernel. Thanks for your help. Petefoth
