the second and more recommended method to get your drivers is to use the windows update center to update the drivers. either go to your settings, and check for updates, or go to the start menu and search for it. after the update is done installing you can go to your device manager and check if any new drivers were installed. if so, restart your laptop, and you should be good to go.

once you have the latest drivers installed, there are two other ways to go about getting them configured properly. the first way is to go to your device manager and look for the adapter. you can then right-click on it and select ‘update driver’. you can then select the ‘browse my computer for driver software’ and let the program search for new drivers. this method isn’t always successful, and some adapters don’t work with it. another way to do it is to uninstall the old drivers, and install the new drivers. this will erase everything you had on your laptop, so make sure you back up your data before doing this.

to begin, go to your device manager, right-click on the adapter, and select ‘uninstall’. now go to the start menu and search for it. next, select ‘all programs’, then ‘adobe flash player’, and then ‘remove adobe flash player’. now go back to the device manager and re-install the new drivers. you should now be good to go.

in some cases, the new driver will not work, and you will have to uninstall and install the old drivers again. this can be a tedious process, and often, you need to uninstall the drivers using the device manager, as they can’t be uninstalled using the uninstall button in windows. most times, you will need to re-install the drivers using the update manager. i would suggest keeping the previous driver version, and using that for backup if you run into an issue.

the other option is to use the driver that came with your adapter. this doesn’t work for some adapters (mine is one of them) but for some, it works fine – or at least this driver will get the adaptor working with bettercap. there should be a cd that comes with the adapter in your driver folder or you should be able to get one from the manufacturer. you will want to go into the folder where the driver was installed, and then copy the file that is called “rtl8812_8812.81..\sources\r8021wr6000.inf.zip” (this file is labeled differently depending on the version of windows that you are using) the firmware is not available for the intel adapter (https://github.com/rehabman/bettercap/issues/206). a relative of a developer has an open source solution (kernelspace and brute). if you want to use this solution, you need a program called usbbatch . if this is the case, you can manually connect to the router by following these steps. first, in the output message, at the bottom-left corner of the screen, you will see the ip address of the router. copy and paste this address into your browser (here, for instance http://192.168.1.1), and then connect to the router. note: before following the steps, make sure that your router is operating on an open wireless network. if your router is operating on a secured network, you will need to login to the router first and then follow these instructions. it also worth mentioning that in newer laptops, the wired ethernet port is omitted, requiring you to plug in the ethernet cable to connect your wi-fi device. in fact, it’s the same condition with the wireless adapter, the built-in ethernet port is omitted, so the ethernet cable is required. 5ec8ef588b
