gameplay: i always go with the ‘free roam’ setting as these are the most fluid and immersive as a player can get (obviously, in order to get the least amount of guidance that would suggest you go somewhere because it makes sense to), so if something comes up, you can just continue by staying close to where you are not being followed but not in too close to not get this weird feeling in the gut where something is about to happen to you. there is an awful lot of crime (all very well lit and shadowless) and the interiors are beautifully designed. occasionally, areas get less convincing though. in the prisons, some of the daylight scenes with the inmates are less convincing and perhaps a little bit of colour on the male characters would make the game look even more convincing. perhaps also some sex scenes too (not sure if they were meant to be there or not, but they seem to appear very randomly) – also whilst not well lit, and nowhere near as good looking as the general quality of the rest of the game. (the sex scenes are disturbing, but not in a dark and disturbing way). there is one scene where the characters are having sex with each other in an isolated room on a floor somewhere. it looks very realistic and convincing (for the first part) but when one of the characters pops a neck out of the bed to drink a glass of water the view is a little distorted and ‘not quite’ right, as if it was some sort of placeholder (then corrected). also the lighting and shadows in some rooms are very bad and a bit unrefined (the cells for example).
my review took me 4 hours to complete, but that was because i couldnt stop playing for an hour, and then i had to come up with a review, so instead of just doing one post i did three. so there are still a lot of places to go in this game. you can read all about the plot, the game and everything else at in the links i provided earlier, but the bottom line is that this game is worth the $30 or whatever, and the gameplay alone will appeal to most people. there is a lite version of this game on steam, that only contains the quest and area reviews, which is always a great way to play this. the downloadable version is $9.99, the same as all the others except for one, the witness. you can go to steam to download it. i got it for $10 and its worth every penny.
