the options window has an extensive amount of settings you can tweak. the first option is the speed of the download. it should be noted that the best speeds are achieved with wifi, especially on a fast connection. if you have 4g/edge you will most likely be stuck with a maximum download speed of 50kbs. the osr client now gets the option to download a new version of runelite, and there is an option to enable automatic updates as well. you can get the most current and up to date client by updating when you launch the client – although this is up to you.

the next step is to download the java client from the official old school runescape website. this page will walk you through the process, and when you reach this section of the tutorial it should all be ready to go, however it is best to close the client and any other windows (e.g. teamviewer) you currently have open before doing this. most modern operating systems will ask you if you want to run the install as administrator if you haven’t already enabled it during setup.
now you are ready to use a game server on a pc. there is one caveat and it’s something that should have been provided with the tutorial. you cannot use the voice chat functionality (if it is installed) for osrsps, and thus you cannot use the voice chat within the server. in my opinion, this is a stupid design decision and i find it wasteful that rsps and the java client do not support the voice chat functionality. i have tried to get osrsps to work with the voice chat in the past, but it only works in the most basic of ways, and with the setup i am using it does not work at all. so instead of using the voice chat in the server, i connect through a teamviewer session to the pc with the voice server installed. it is a shame that this is the only solution though, as it would be pretty easy to include it with the client. there is also no reason that the voice chat functionality could not be included in the java client, but it was not deemed as necessary by the game team.
now let’s start setting up this server. the first thing we want to do is set up our ports. the most common port that you will use is generally the standard udp port (udp = user datagram protocol), which in this case is 1337. other more specific numbers are available, but they are less common. this is the port on which all game servers use to receive and send player commands. all real time updates (meaning displaying the world) happen through this port, as do all game server-to-client communication. a shortcoming of this is that some games may not work with this port as a client.
